The Chainsmokers' Memories...Do Not Open has remained at the top of the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart for 62 weeks, usually in the No. 1 spot, as it is right now. Can anyone topple the 12-track behemoth? Well, maybe The Chainsmokers can.
The New York City duo follows the LP with Sick Boy...Side Effects, a new five-track EP composed entirely of singles. It opens with new tune "Side Effects," a pop stuctured song with a more classic house feel than the boys have showcased in some time. A strutting rhythm floats down the sidewalk arm-in-arm with a soulful croon from Emily Warren. It's followed by The Chainsmoker's previously-released songs "Somebody," "Everybody Hates Me," "You Owe Me" and "Sick Boy."
It's a thoughtful release that sees a duo critiqued for its shallow approach to creation turn its attention inward. It's a soul-searching effort that faces personal problems rather than forcing them down on the dance floor. It's music as therapy rather than escape, reflective, but still hook-driven in The Chainsmokers' signature way.
Sick Boy...Side Effects is a moment of growth for the duo. It's out now on Disruptor Records. Listen to the EP in full below.
